We make dentistry for kids smooth and so much fun for the kids, their parents and for our entire team. With clinic having such fun quotes on its door and fun pastel shades used in the operatory and the reception, all our kiddie patients fall in love with our clinic and our team. We engage them with our behavior management methods and use distraction tools like their cartoon videos during their treatment.
We always have a conversation with the parent before the first dental visit on some do's and dont’s to enable a smooth first dental visit to ensure their child looks forward to the next dental visit.
With kids, our approach to their dental visits and treatment is very different from that of adults.
We belive PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
For prevention of dental decay and maintainance of a healthy mouth, we do the following-
We make a dental treatment plan for the entire year on the first child’s visit. This plan has a big section on prevention and oral hygiene maintainance along with diet counseling. It gets the parents also involved with their child’s oral hygiene care and together we helps make the smiles brighter and whiter.
Fluoride combines with the hydroxyapatite tooth crystals to form fluoro-hydroxyapetite which prevent the acid from penetrating inside the tooth. It also helps in re-mineralisation of demineralized tooth structure and also helps in arresting early decay. Its caused a magical change in our approach to your child’s dental treatment.
Fluoride varnish and fluoride gel treatment usually done once to twice a year helps prevent dental decay. We call it our white washing procedure to make it sound fun to your kids.
Deep grooves on your teeth can cause retention of food that is a major cause of dental decay. At our clinic we commonly practice sealing of your child’s teeth with dental sealants to prevent dental decay. We make those danger zones self-cleansible so that food gets washed away plus they have fluoride in them which helps strengthen your child’s teeth.
We help parents with food substitues after helping them identify the damaging foods of their child’s diet as nature of the diet and its frequency of intake have a major role to play in causing dental decay.
We use medicated fillings called glass ionomer cements containing fluoride to enable strength and fluoride benefits to the teeth being filled. We also use other agents according to the depth of the filling to prevent the tooth from undergoing a root canal.
We also use other fillings which are set with blue light whenever necessary. Sometimes they are the choice of material for aesthetics and function. There are other smart materials too which can be used depending on the condition of the teeth.
Pulp Is the living portion of the tooth. It contains nerves and blood vessels. Decay or infection close to this part of the tooth can spread very quickly. Its like a mango seed right in the centre. Decay close to the pulp may require pulp therapy which could be one of the follows depending on depth of decay.
Direct/Indirect pulp capping
Here we try and cap the pulp with a medicine as an effort to save the tooth from undergoing a root canal (pulpectomy).
Pulpotomy
Here only the top of the pulp is cleaned and sealed with a medicated filling material.
Pulpectomy
This is another word for a rootcanal done for milk teeth where the pulp is cleaned throughout and then filling with a safe material.
The good news is that kids can also have tooth coloured crowns.
For the front teeth the caps/crowns are :
Strip crowns
Zirconia crowns
Polycarbonate crowns
For the back teeth the caps/crowns are :
Stainless steel crowns
Zirconia crowns
Polycarbonate crowns
The first reaction to a trauma should me to rush to the closest dentist. If the tooth has fallen, immerse the tooth in normal (not hot)milk, saline or coconut water and if there is no access to either wash under tap water and keep it safe in the water. Do not scrub the tooth or its root. If the tooth has been got to the dentist in the first one hour then there are chances that the dentist can fix the tooth back and within a few weeks the tooth will be back in function. Additional treatment for that tooth may be required in the future like a pulpectomy and a cap, etc. Usually the upper front teeth are at risk.
In case your child has collapsed or is unconscious or vomits, etc… then please get your child admitted to the closest hospital.
In case of early tooth loss, we advice space mainteners to help in proper placement of the underlying permanent tooth eruption in the mouth.
We advice an early consultation for kids at the age of 7-8 years to check for when the child might require braces depending on the pattern of eruption of the milk teeth and jaw growth.Invisible braces are also an excellent option that we give to you for your children as they are esthetic and also low maintainance. In case the child has habits of tongue thrust, thumb sucking, mouth breathing till 4 years of age, please get your child for a consultation, so that we can help your child to stop these habits and help counsel you. There could be requirement of a habit breaking appliance to stop the habit.
We believe in saving and protecting your child’s teeth. But in case the infection has led to major tooth breakdown ,then extraction is the only option. We manage the extraction very tactfully and it is done under local anaesthesia.
We provide facility of general anaesthesia in a hospital when the child is extremely non cooperative and medically or physically challenged.
